Attention!

  • If you build an RC Cybertruck, you need every part which listed on the Model Cybertruck page and additional the parts, which are listed here below.

Step 1: General information

You can find here the specifications for each part with some explanation. If you are new in the RC world, we have a strong recommendation for each component.

Other, similar parts also could work, specially if they fulfill our specifications.

Attention!

  • If you choose a more powerful components, check all critical components (battery, speed controller, motor) compatibility to each other and prepare yourself for a possible overheat problems at summer time, or on long-time heavy usage!
  • If you already have some other RC components around you and you are Pro in the RC world, you should check the Maximum physical dimension specifications, because every RC component has a dedicated space.

Step 2: Battery

It is one of the most important component for any electric vehicle (EV) car. We tested our powertrain with the next battery specification:

Specification:

  • Type: LiPo (Litium polymer battery) recommended
  • Maximum physical dimensions: 47 mm x 138 mm x 25 mm (1,85 in x 5,43 in x 0,98 in)
  • Connector type: T-dean Plug (it is connected to your Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) )
  • Charging Balancer Connector type: JST-XH (it is connected to your charger)
  • Recommended Cell Configuration / Voltage: 2S / 7,4 V (2S = 2 Cells in Series)
  • Optional Cell Configuration / Voltage: 3S / 11,1 V (3S = 3 Cells in Series)
  • Discharge rating: 50 C ( C = capacity) (more Discharge = better acceleration)
  • Capacity: 5200 mAh (more capacity = more time to play)

Information / Math lesson:

Letโ€™s calculate our max. discharge:

  • Our Discharge rating: 50 C (C =capacity)
  • Our Capacity: 5200 mAh

So the max. discharge: 50 x 5200 mAh = 50 x 5,2 Ah = 260 Ampere.

So your battery can produce 260 Ampere and your Electronic Speed Controller (ESC) has to handle this amount of peak Amperes.

Our proposal:

Information

  • We made some test with 3S battery too, which give better acceleration, but it is also make more stress on the powertrain parts and shorten the drivetrain lifetime.

Step 3: Electronic Speed controller (ESC)

Information:

  • This component will communicate with your transmitter, control your motor speed and send the power from the battery to motor.

Specification:

  • Maximum physical dimensions: 32 mm x 36,5 mm x 18 mm
  • Connector type: T-dean Plug (it is connected to Battery T-dean)
  • Voltage range: Should support 2S and 3S Lipo battery
  • Forward Peak Current: Should be more than our calculated battery peak discharge rate. So in our case it should be more than 260 A.
  • Motor type: Brushed motor support need (550 Size)
  • Motor limit with 2S battery: More or equal than 12T
  • Motor limit with 3S battery: More or equal than 18T
  • Quantity: 1 piece for Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and 2 pieces for All Wheel Drive (AWD)

Information:

On the RC motor world the 550 Size category define the motor size. The 12T, 21T, 29T, 35T the โ€œTโ€œ mean the number of the turns. This is the number of times the wire inside the motor is wrapped around the stator.

Practically with the 12T motor you will get high speed/low torque, with 35T low speed/high torque.

Our proposal:

Information:

With our recommended ESC you have chance to upgrade your battery from 2S to 3S, if you would like to build a higher performance RC.

Step 4: Motor

Information:

On the RC motor world the 550 Size category define the motor size. The 12T, 21T, 29T, 35T the โ€œTโ€œ mean the number of the turns. This is the number of times the wire inside the motor is wrapped around the stator.

Practically with the 12T motor you will get high speed/too low torque, with 35T low speed/high torque.

Our proposal is the 21T, alternative: 29T.

Specification:

  • Motor type: Brushed Motor
  • Size category: 550
    • House diameter: 36 mm (1,41 in)House length: Max. 55 mm (2,17 in)Shaft diameter: 3,175 mm (0,125 in)
    • Shaft length: 11 mm (0,43 in)
  • Our proposal for turns: 21T
  • Alternative for turns: 29T
  • Supported Voltage: 7,4 Vโ€ฆ11,1V
  • Quantity: 1 piece for Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and 2 pieces for All Wheel Drive (AWD).

Our proposal:

Alternative:

Step 5: Motor extensions

Attention!

During a long time, heavy usage your motor will be hot! If your motor temperature will be too high, the first 3D Printed PLA gear on the motor will melt and the RC car will stop working.  In this chapters you have some possibilities to fight with the motor heat with some supplier part. You can choose how far you go!

About the 3D Printed related heat management you will be found information in the next chapter.

  • Use an Aluminum heat shield on the motor to help  in heat distribution (must have!)
  • Use active cooling with 30 mm x 30 mm x 10 mm fan on the dedicated place (recommended),
  • Use on the motor shaft a metal extension part, which have a bigger flat surface like on the motor 3,17 mm diamater (only for performance edition)

Our proposal:

Only for performance editions:
